Effects appear within five to ten minutes after use, and last for several hours. The active alkaloids of kratom have both stimulating and sedative effects. A low to moderate dose will usually (but not always) be stimulating, while a high dose of Bali kratom is mostly sedating. Which effect predominates depends both on blood pressure and individual differences between users. The feeling has been described as happy, euphoric, strong and active, with a strong desire to do work. Although the most important alkaloids are related to psychedelic substances, there appears to be no psychoactivity.
